about us

Friends of Bullock Creek Inc (FOBC) is a community group in urban Wanaka with the mandate of protecting, restoring, and enhancing the public amenity and environment of Bullock Creek from the headwaters to its entry point into Lake Wanaka.

FOBC was an incorporated society and a registered charity (CC 55737) formed on the 18th of September 2018, and as of November the 11th , transferred to being a Not-for-Profit Trust.

Our operational committee is made of 8 committed local residents, half of which work fulltime, and all of whom volunteer their time and expertise to support the FOBC vision and restorative operations for the Bullock Creek environs.

A major focus of FOBC since 2018 has been the restoration of the Wetlands site at the headwaters of Bullock creek. This is a 2.7ha site owned by Fish and Game Otago which, in partnership with FOBC and our volunteers, is being systematically cleared of exotic weeds and bushes and is being replanted in native plants and maintained with the vision to restore the Wetlands to its natural state. The site has recently been registered as an open space covenant under the QE11 National Trust which will legally protect the site into perpetuity. The Wetlands are gradually being transformed from being a disregarded wasteland into a valued green space for the local community with thriving natural flora and fauna ecosystems.
