Friends of Bullock Creek

We exist to protect, restore and enhance the public amenity and the environment of
Bullock Creek from head waters to its entry point into Lake Wānaka, New Zealand.

What makes Bullock Creek special?

Bullock Creek is the lifeblood of Wānaka, a rare spring-fed creek of exceptional purity that flows through an urban environment into Lake Wānaka.

The spring-water comes from the Wānaka Basin Cardrona Gravel Aquifer, feeding Bullock Creek’s beautiful and special ‘seepage wetland’ at the Fish & Game hatchery springs site.

Protecting Bullock Creek and the wetland involves:

  • preventing damaging stormwater run-off,

  • removing exotic weeds, and replanting native plants along its banks. This ‘riparian planting’ helps reduce erosion of the riverbanks, provides shelter and shade for plants, animals and fish, and helps clean the water that flows into Lake Wānaka.
